Goa Picnic
Our School had arranged a three day excursion to Goa on 1st December 2012 to
relax and enjoy the beauty of nature.48 students along with 12 staff members
visited Goa. Reyon of Std VIII, Branhard of Std VII and Melissa of Std VI
were taken to Goa on Principal’s expenses as they had faired excellently
well during their Mid-term exams. The journey in the train was wonderful as
we had good view of the landscape around us and the children enjoyed a lot
dancing and singing. As it was the festive season of St.Francis Xavier, we
had decided to visit Bon Jesus Basilica on the first day. It is an ancient
magnificient church with golden altar depicting the life of St.Francis
Xavier. The mortal remains of the Holy Saint are kept for public viewing in
a glass case. The ‘Sound and Light’ program gives us the picture of the life
of the Holy Saint. Later we visited ‘The Archaeological Museum’ which has a
vast collection of sculptures made on various types of rocks found in India
which date back to 18th century. Some of the paintings were made of oil and
colours and were of 14th century. Evening time was cool and we went around
the huge fair stalls exhibiting various articles, food, clothing.etc. All of
us were glad to have goan cuisine dinner. We had halted at St.Anthony’s
School .Although everyone was tired, no one slept but enjoyed singing,
chatting and playing. Next day, we set out for a trip around the city after
delicious breakfast. We visited Baga Beach which had a very good crowd even
in the hot sun. Later we visited Aguada Fort which has an inbuilt water
reservoir and a strong giant prison and is a massive structure. After lunch
we went to Colva beach , all enjoyed splashing and puddling in the water.
Some of our students enjoyed catching starfish .Later we went to Don Bosco
where we enjoyed hot supper and rested ourselves on soft beds and cushions.
On the third day, we visited “Big Foot” – a museum depicting life of goans.
We saw the biggest monolithic laterite rock sculpture. Later we went to
Madgaon market and purchased goan sweets and popular items for our families.
On the way back in train we enjoyed playing drums, singing antakshari and
dancing. We reached Udupi and thanked God for such a memorable outing.
